The Bretwaldas
of Heathen Doom formed in 2001, originally under the project title
'Icelord'. The music was an extension of the pagan / heathen
activities and interests of the two members - Wartooth ( Bass /
Vocals ), and Sceot Acwealde ( Guitars / Drums ), and early songs
were about ancient monuments, battle magic in dark woods, Woden
cults, and burial mound hauntings, with pagan metal leanings. Later
work is harder, clearer, and more consistent. Bretwaldas ( often
abbreviated to ) play English Heathen Doom, with fast riffs and
trebly guitars. |

Three releases
are available - 'The Sleeping Trees Have Eyes' demo cassette from
2001 / 02 which was all recorded on a dusty Fostex X-15 Four track (
and is none the worse for it ), 2003's 'Droner' which has a lot of
Pagan and doom metal tones, and 2006's storming 'Battle Staffs in
the Mushroom Woods', which sees a rallying 'call to arms' metal
approach.
Bretwaldas are
children of the English hardcore punk / metal days, and have a
staunch link with that dark past, both ethically and in musical
spirit. The band will announce details of the third album this summer of 2008
